The Blue Cape of Evolution in Cuba,
July 2002
with The Contemporary Ballet of Cuba
and Afro-Cuban musicians
organized by Luis Miret & The Fundacion Ludwig de Cuba
The Blue Cape of Cinema is
an ephemeral monument inhabited by 12 persons
the time of each performance. Each action consists of a march
parade
in a city and a place of a designated country.
During the processing of the parade, the inhabitants of the Cape
will change masks and identities.
The Blue Cape of Evolution , my new coat of transformation, is
performed for the first time
in Cuba in July 2002. The Cape will
continue on in many other countries, perhaps changing identity.
Is that not what a Coat of Transformation is for? The Cape, inhabited
by 12 people, for a few moments becomes a living sculpture, walking
along the street or in a public square of the country being visited.
Participants each wear 5 masks, which they change as they proceed
in a kind of ritual. The masks bear the name of events, individuals,
and movements, a total of 60, which have contributed to our/your/their/my
evolution in the twentieth century.
At the same time, I am making a documentary, "Quien
Es?" (Who Is It).
I put the same question to everyone, in the streets, and in both
public and private places,
one which takes up the idea of the masks: What are the personages,
events, or inventions that have contributed to the evolution of
the last century, or to your personal evolution?
